Speaking from the privilege of a dude with a successful freelance career

I become more convinced every day that the worst thing that ever happened to workers was the idea of their employer (be they big company or civil entity or whatever) should be a benevolent bro, taking care of sick days and retirement and vacation and whatever for the 45 years you’re “of working age.” The most important right a worker has is the right to quit and find a new job, and exercising the shit out of that is the way to get what’s yours. Tricking people into thinking they have a non-atagonistic relationship with their employer was pretty sneaky!
